Things I wished I’d known at 16

• You will look at yourself in the mirror through teary eyes and call yourself names you may not dream of calling others, along the lines of ‘spotty, fat, ugly and stupid’ you’re none of these, okay maybe you are spotty but so are most other hormonal teens you spend your days with and spots do by no means equivalent to ugliness.
• Your body is going to change, you sadly can’t keep your iron board body forever, at some point you’ll start getting curves something that happens to all women and this doesn’t mean you’re getting ‘fat’.
• Your going to meet many guys, all of which you’ll probably say ‘I love you’ to even if you’re unsure whether you do or not, most of these relationships will last a couple of months if that and when they end you’ll feel a little silly. Do not validate yourself off the small-minded opinions of those guys. At some point the right person will come along and you will realise why it never worked with anyone else.
• You’re going to have mediocre sex with even mediocre people, don’t feel un pure or bad about this, when you meet someone who truly cares for you they won’t mind that they’re not their first they will be happy that they will be your last.
• You will fall out with people, friends will become enemies, enemies will become friends, people who you never thought you would speak to may become friends with you, every opportunity in life brings with it the opportunity to meet new people and make friends and grasping them opportunities are so important.
• You don’t always have to pick the option which will please everyone else. Your parents have lived their life’s and you’re not the first person to annoy your boss. Make decisions based on what you think will make you truly happy because often those decisions are the decisions you will thrive best in.
• You can only ever try your best, as long as you’ve done that the outcome is unimportant because you couldn’t of done it any better than you did.

Your mental health comes before school, always. If it’s midnight, and you have an exam the next day, but your hands have been shaking for the past hour and a half and you’re not so sure you want to be alive anymore, pull out that tub of Ben and Jerry’s and afterwards, go to sleep. So what if you only get 68% on the exam the next day? You took care of yourself and at the end of the day that will always come before a high test score. To hell with anyone who tell you differently.
